So the time has come to reflect on our learning in the Global Teenager Project… this learning experience has had impacted our understanding of Canadians and others in the World in respect to the Global Millennium Goals. Please write a paragraph response (with details) for each of these questions. Post your paragraphs below so everyone can share in your learning process…
** these answers will be summarized and put into the GTP wiki.
Questions…
- Why did we ask the questions we asked? How did we narrow our focus to maternal health?
- What did you know about the Millennium goals when we started? What did you know about maternal health in Canada?
- What did you learn in our classroom? What did you learn in your group’s topic – look at the information now that it is full with information…. Group Question Link
- What did you expect to learn over the course of this learning circle?
Looking at our answer page for the questions we posed to the other countries…
- What did you learn from the responses of the students in our research section?
- What was similar or different in the research answers received from the Learning Circle partners? Why do we think these differences exist?
Reflection
We asked the questions that we did because we were unclear about what is going on in other countries. We narrowed our focus on maternal health by taking a vote about what the class thought would be the best question to ask and came out with maternal health.
I knew that the millennium goals were to make a better world for all of us to live in. As of before we started this project I knew absolutely nothing about the maternal health in Canada.
To date I have learned that there are places in the world that don’t have hospitals like we do or even a clean place to have a baby. I also learned that we can make a change by even doing simple tasks like linking up with other countries and helping them out with information about Canada.
What I learned in our classroom is that our poverty rates are nothing like those in third world countries. I also learned that in third world countries there is nothing to deliver a baby on to. I also learned that they do not have any health care coverage and others to help protect them. I expected to learn a lot more about what other countries have and don’t have. What I expected to learn I have learned.
I learned that there are not many vitamins and minerals that are available to us but not other countries.
The research that was done was very different because all around the world we have different resources to do researh and we all looked at the question differently.
The reason we asked the questions we asked was so we could research and get a vibe on what and why certain things were happening in other countries. We got the chance to take the time to learn from people who have the a load of what exactly was going on. We narrowed our focus on maternal health based on a class vote, deciding which question would be the best question and our result was maternal health.
Truthfully I have no idea what the Millennium goal or maternal health was.
In class I came to the realization that I am so fortunate to have some of the little things that I don’t even think are that important. We as a country take so many things for granted, such as… clear water, hospitals/health care, etc. Where those in third world countries don’t have that.
I mostly expected to learn about other countries and what opportunities that do/don’t have. Throughout this whole thing I learnt that, I, as an individual can do so much just to make a change, by doing simple things that eventually do affect other peoples lives.
All the research was different in their own way. Each and everyone of them provided their information in a different format, some more helpful, others not so much. All depending on the resources they have and their point of view.
No Comment……I had my whole page done and I went to submit it and I forgot my name and email therefore i am pissed because now I am rewritting this!!!!!!!!! Now my answers suck……..
Our class asked the questions we asked because it was a way making the question clearer to the other countries. The questions we asked were also narrowed done we were split into groups to come up with questions for each millenium goal in order to have a better understanding on each countries needs. We narrowed our search to maternal health because we all thought we could make a difference in some one elses life. Also Mrs.Thack our guidance counsillor heard about the project and asked us to involve the whole student body at CSS to make birthing kits to send to third world countries.
Personally I didn’t know alot about the Millenium Goals. I knew Canada was involved in trying to end poverty through missonary trips and disaster relief efforts. I also knew that the idea of this was to make other countries a better place. I knew that we have better maternal health in Canada than most countries because we have free health care and benefits. I knew we have support groups and prenatal classes like the “Lamaze group” because I am currently studing this in Living And Working with Children.
In our classroom I learned that we are very fortunate to have the health care we have. Not all familys are able to afford health care and doctored deliverys for there children. We learned that by making birthing kits we will make a difference in another womens life, and provide a clean environment for the delivery. We also learned more than maternal health care. We researched technology, food and environment stustainability. Like how Canada has an economic action plan which has invested money to help our country.
In our groups topic we researched Technology, Food , Economy. Like I just said we have an economic action plan which has invested money to help our country. We have food banks to help familys in need and Canada researchers work with neighbouring countries to provide results and find cures to diseases and new technologies.
I learned alot, however I expected to learn more about the other countries goals….
I learned that in Canada we are lucky to have the resources and time we have to research. Some countries were unable to do things due to examines and lack of resources. I also learned that we will benefit from reading there answers because it goes to show we are very fortunate for what we have.
They are similar because the are researching the same thing. We are different because our countries are not all the same we all have different resources and thoughts.
The questions that were asked by my classmates were asked to find further information on other countries. We took time to analyze the different topics given to us and to determine the questions needing to be asked. Our class was most interested to gain further information on maternal health; we found this out by taking votes on what each person wanted.
When we first started talking about the Millennium goals in the class I didn’t know anything about them. It was interesting to learn and discover more and more out about the Millennium goals as we investigated the information. Likewise with the Millennium goals, I also knew very little about maternal health in Canada. I knew the possibilities of defects during women pregnancy but that was about it.
In class I realized that there are many countries in our world that have a harder life then us. We are very fortunate to have free health care within Canada, clean water whenever needed, and enough electricity to last forever. I learned that Canada is more involved with finding new things to provide within our community but do not worry about what other countries are in need of.
I expected to learn about other countries and what they do in their community to help support everyone. I expected to learn more and more about what they are in need of and how we can help them, in everyday life, to allow them to provide for a better lifestyle within their country.
I learned a lot from the responses from the students in our research section. I learned that in Canada we are very fortunate to have what we have. Canadians have the ability to do much more and receive much more here then elsewhere. In addition, Canadians have the ability to research more than other places. We were able to provide more videos and pictures with our responses than other people. I am very grateful for what we have here in Canada and this project has inspired me to consider global needs that exist and how I can play a role in helping others.
We asked the questions we did to gain a better perspective and understanding of the life, resources and issues other countries have. To narrow our focus on maternal health we picked the questions we felt would be best discussed as a class. In the classroom i learned how truely different canada may be from other countries but how out need for change is the same as every other country. Our group questions helped me see more of the similarities rather than the differences each counrty has in maintaining the millenium goals.
From the responses of the students it was clear that each country is highly involved in caring from mothers and infants. Many of the countries have pre natal care activities, doctors or midvives who attend the births free of charge by the government or elswise and also post partum care. The real difference is within each counrty, not all of the child bearing mothers have access to such medical attention as they are either too poor or live in a very unglobalized community.
Global Teenager Project : Accumulate Our Learnings
We chose the questions that we asked because they were questions that we were interested in but didnt have much knowledge of. They were issues that affected everyone around the world instead of issues that were only subjected to one specific area so that we could relate to the students from the other schools. We narrowed our focus to maternal health by doing vote. The majority of the class voted for maternal health.
When we first started the global teenager project I had very little knowledge of the millenium goals. I found it very hard to believe that the goals were attainable though. They seemed like goals set for future generations. I knew that maternal health in Canada was much more beneficial than other areas of the world. Woman here are given time off with pay during pregnancies while in other countries such rights do not exsist. They are also given access to universal healthcare which greatly contributes to a safe pregnancy and childbirth.
While in the classroom i learned about the various issues and how they are a growing problem not only in our country but other countries as well. I did alot of research on homelessness in Canada and how it is a largely increasing number. However I learned that we are fortunate to have so many great opportunities that are not offered in other countires. We are given free health care and have so many job opportunities in a everyday declining economy.
All of the reserach between the schools was similar but different in many ways. It was similar because we had the same topics but varied due to our countries different resources, information and customs. Most of there information was very helpful although some of it could have been more helpful and descriptive.
We asked the questions that we asked because as a class we were interested to find out more the world around us. We wanted to know about what other countries might be having issues with and see how we could compare it to Canada. The class ended up coming up with a good question about maternal health.
To be honest I had no idea about either one of those things.
I learned that living in Canada is a priviledge, and I am very lucky to have been born here. I think that we are so lucky to have all the things that we need to survive with right in our own homes, where as some people don’t have that in their own homes, let alone their own countries.
I expected to learn more about the world that I was living in. I wanted to know how other people lived in their country and compare it to Canada and see the differences or the similarities.
I learned that all the countries had someone professional available for the time that the mother is giving birth. But some of the countries do not have any classes to take like the Lamaze classes.
It was all different because we are from different places in the world. I think that there were differences because the resources and maybe time or points of view are a factor.
We asked the question that we asked because as a class we wanted to know more about the world around us. We decided as a class to focus on one mdg, we all came to the decision to ask about maternal health.
I personally knew nothing about millenium goals or maternal health in Canada.
I learned that it is a priviledge to live in Canada, and I was lucky enough to have been born here. We have all the things to survive on right in our home, where as some countries don’t have that to their advantage.
I expected to learn about what was going on in the world around me. I wanted to know the differences and similarites from Canada and other countries.
I learned that many of the countries have someone professional available for a mother giving birth. But not all the countries have the Lamaze classes or any other mommy classes of any sort.
Some of the differences I notices were some gave lots of information and some gave very little. I think that the differences were probably affected by their resources, and possibly time.
We asked the questions we asked to get a better idea on the life and to help other countries better understanding on what we were doing.
We came up with the questions by splitting into groups and then discussing the questions on maternal health and different issues then we decided on which ones sounded the best out of them all.
What i knew about the millenium goals when we first started was nothing i never even heard of it but the farther we got into it i learned we have a very good maternal health in canada.
I learned in our class we are very lucky for what we have and i have learned from my group topic that we have a very low child mortality rate compared to other countries which i am very thankful for.
I expected to learn many different things on how Canada is so different from other countries and how we have it really good compared to some places and should be more thankful for what we have.
I learned most of the students were interested in fixing what was wrong since theire countries don’t have alot of the benefits ours do.
We are simular in the fact we are researching and trying to fix the same problems but different because there are different circumstances depending on the country.
We ask the questions we did, because we wanted answers to our questions, and to gain a better
understanding of the world around us and the people in it. we got a chance to hear from the people
who are most affected by it, and i got a chance to see how alike and diffrent we were from
eachother, yet we share the same goals for our country. we chose the question we could dicuss as
a group. i learned that canada has many resources availible that arent in many other countries, and
from the response from everyone i know that each student is committed to the milluem goals.
am i am happy i was apart of this.
