Chemical reactions

Chemical reactions were a big part in the chemistry unit. We learned about how different substances mix with other and the effects and reactions they made. We had many labs and looked at different elements on the periodic table and how they reacted with others. One lab we did was lighting the Bunsen burner with a flint starter, using long tongs to pick a piece of steel wool, burning the wool, next was to take a 25mL cylinder and measure 20mL of 3% hydrogen peroxide and pouring it into a 125mL flask, using a clean scopula measure a pea-sized amount of potassium iodide power into the flask, gently swirl the contents for a few seconds until it bubbles, burning more steel wool and putting into the flask and seeing the reactions it made. Comparing the two burnt steel wool pieces was interesting because one of them was very blue and the other was a darker black.

Chemical reactions

I chose this key point because I remembered it best, it was fun to do, and I learned something from it. Doing this lab was very cool, seeing how different substances mixed with others gives off a different result each time was an important thing to understand. Some labs didn’t work based off of the temperature in the room or amount of static electricity but most of them did and hands on activities makes you remember what you’ve learned better than just just taking a note. One in real life situation where you would use chemicals is if you were a scientist. You would need to deal with chemicals all day and you would need to be able to experiment and see how chemicals react with others. That is why I chose chemical reactions/labs.

Websites

https://www.britannica.com/science/chemical-reaction is the first website I chose. It has a variety of sources and information to look at. There are quizzes, articles and tons of pieces to read about chemical reactions and how they work and what they are. This website is well organized and gives you tons of important information. Overall if you don’t know a lot about chemical reactions this website would be good to use.

http://www.chem4kids.com/files/react_intro.html is the second website I chose. This website is great for kids. It goes into great detail about chemicals and breaks it down for children so they understand better. It is even good for some adult if they don’t quite understand how these things work. It is very interesting and colourful and is a great website for all.

Book
The book I found is called “chemical reactions and chemical reactors by George W Roberts”. This book looked very interesting and has a lot of information in it. After someone reads this book they will know a lot of good information about chemical reactions and how they work. The cover of the book caught my eye. In the book there will be an abundant amount of information and things to think about.
